Congratulations! Our College Academician Ding Wenhua Team, Associate Professor Wang Shuoyao Research Group has won the IEEE ICC2024 Best Paper Award.

Time:2024-06-17

From June 9th to 13th, the IEEE International Conference on Communications 2024 (IEEE ICC 2024) was successfully held in Denver, Colorado, USA. During the conference, the paper “Adaptive 360-Degree Video Streaming with Multi-window and Stochastic Viewport Prediction” from the College of Electronics and Information Engineering at Shenzhen University won the Best Paper Award. The paper was guided by Associate Professor Wang Shuoyao from the team of Academician Ding Wenhua and completed by master students Feng Weichao and Dai Yu. The paper studies the distribution mechanisms for transmitting 360-degree videos over mobile networks and proposes an uncertainty-aware viewport prediction method in highly dynamic environments characterized by frequent changes in both viewport and bandwidth. By characterizing the real-time streaming system over time, the study models the bitrate adaptation for 360-degree video streaming as an online optimization problem. Based on model predictive control theory, the study designs a low-complexity, viewport change-aware, and highly stable online bitrate decision algorithm aimed at enhancing the quality of user experience when watching 360-degree videos online.

IEEE ICC is the flagship conference organized by the IEEE Communications Society (IEEE ComSoc). For ICC 2024, a total of 2,364 papers were submitted from around the world, with an acceptance rate of less than 40%. The technical committee, composed of internationally renowned experts, conducted a rigorous two-stage review process, selecting only 15 papers for the Best Paper Award. Our work was the only paper selected in the Communication Software and Multimedia Symposium.
